What do I get?
We want to make these events as accessible to the running world as possible and we know that many people want to have a goal race on the calendar but can't afford to pay to enter.
Thus, our races are and always will be free to register, participate, be part of the community, receive a print-at-home race number, and have your results posted on our website.
If you'd like any of the "extras" you might be used to at a normal race, like a t-shirt, awesome medal, high quality race number, or other swag, we're selling those for folks who want them.
Note - for the 5K, all profits will go to the Range of Motion Project.
Awards and Prizes
The Chaski Classic 5K will feature prizes from our sponsors for top times as well as pre- and post- race giveaways.
Prizes will be announced shortly.
Empowerment for All - The Cause
Elite double-amputee athlete Brian Reynolds will attempt to break the world record for 5km run by a double-amputee as part of the Chaski Challenge Classic 5K.
In the spirit of Chaski's mission of athlete empowerment for ALL athletes, Brian and Chaski will be raising funds for the Range of Motion Project (ROMP), a 501(c)3 non-profit with a mission to provide high quality prosthetic care in under-served populations, which enhances mobility and unlocks human potential.
All profits from the Chaski Challenge Classic 5K will be donated to ROMP and we ask that runners consider a donation within their budget to support this great cause.
You'll be asked if you'd like to make a donation when you register or you can donate here, directly on the ROMP website.
Amputee Athlete World Record Race
The Story: Elite able-bodied and amputee athletes work together to break the World Record for 5km run by a double-amputee athlete and first sub-16:00 time.
The Details: The Chaski Challenge Weekend will open with a world record attempt by double-amputee-athlete Brian Reynolds. Brian already holds the World Record for 5km run by a double-amputee and will attempt to lower that mark and become the first double-amputee runner to break the 16 minute barrier.
To help him, 1 to 3 able-bodied athletes will run with him (and other amputee athletes) as “pace-setters”, helping block the wind and set the pace for this feat. NOTE - this is reliant on COVID-19 restrictions allowing for this kind of running.
Brian will either run alone in a time-trial setting or against a small field of other elite amputee-athletes (male and female) if that can be arranged given COVID-19 travel and gathering restrictions.
No matter what, the event will be broadcast live with video, commentary, and live tracking and visualization showing Ryan’s avatar chasing the record.
When: 8pm EDT, Friday, September 11, 2020
Where: A 400m track, Northeast, USA - exact location TBD
