A Story Worth Telling

A native of Northeast Ohio, Kyle Masterson never wanted to be average. After pursuing every sport possible simultaneously Kyle found a passion for track and field and cross country through his high school years. Though not a superstar, and not even the best runner at his high school, Kyle had respectable high school performances. In a move that many regarded as foolish, Kyle took his talents to distance running powerhouse Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado.

As a walk on Kyle drew little attention at first. However, his work ethic and self belief soon gained the respect of his teammates. In 2013 Kyle made Adams State’s top 7 for the first time, finishing 18th at NCAA DII Cross Country Nationals and helping his team win the team championship.

Kyle then faced adversity few have known. A rare condition developed in both his hamstrings, forcing two major surgeries only 5 months apart to hopefully save Kyle’s running career. After many months of rehab and additional setbacks Kyle took to racing again with renewed vigor. He would once again help his team win an NCAA Championship in 2016, and nab multiple All-American awards before wrapping up his career as an Adams State Grizzly.
