Zandy grew up amongst the roots and rocks of rural New Hampshire, but has lived in Brooklyn, NY since 2001. After graduating from Connecticut College where he earned Academic All-American honors in cross-country, he embarked on a career as a photojournalist, and it was actually a photography assignment for Racing The Planet that introduced him to ultrarunning.
Naive to the demands of an ultramarathon, Zandy finished in dead last place in his first ultra event - a 250km stage race in the Australian outback - but he learned key lessons and since that race went on win other ultra races, qualify for six Boston Marathons, but most importantly develop a sustainable approach to racing and training.
Zandy looks to keep running the dream in 2021 at Western States, the Boston Marathon and other yet to be determined races and FKT attempts. He is also leading a trail running camp in Chamonix in August 2021 (www.trailsandroots.com).
